The Big Tasty Art Exhibit - Oodles Of Deviant Doodles
At Hyaena Gallery Burbank, CA
Hollie Stevens - Saturday, March 15, 2008
I flew into Burbank that evening, very excited to see Big Tasty’s work and to meet up with several artist friends of mine at the exhibit. I was picked up by a friend and brought to his apartment to drop off my luggage in Studio City around 6:30. The exhibit started at 8:00 but I felt like I should show up around 9:00 or so. I ended up dicking around on the computer till about 9:30 (that pirate game on facebook can be very addicting). I walked over to the Seven Eleven to get some cash out for a cab. By the time I finally called the cab and showed up at the gallery, it was about 10:15. I walked in, said hello to Bill (the owner of the gallery) and made my way straight to the free wine. Once settled in, I made my way through the crowd to my good friend Kevin Klemm. He’s an amazing artist. He makes all of the corpses for the magazine I write for (Girls and Corpses). We chatted for quite a while because I hadn’t seen him in so long when the man of the hour [Big Tasty] comes up to us. “You missed my Indiana Wild Man Costume!” he shouts. I was getting it from everyone about showing up late. Kevin then took me over to the wall of Tasty creations. Wonderfully bizarre as usual. Kevin then told me about Bill purchasing a doodle from the Big T of a giant anus tree. I was trying to put together in my head how that could be possible. I was finally shown later that night.
Yes, an anus tree is possible I later learned. We had several drinks through the night, Bill gave me some comics that he created titled Glue Boy, (which I forgot and am now reminding myself to pick up the next time I’m in Los Angeles) Big Tasty did an interpretative dance to a Manowar tune and the crowd began to disperse soon after. It was getting close to midnight anyway and the free wine was getting scarce.
I talked to Kevin some more till my ride (Stanton Lavey and porn star Dick Tracy) came to pick me up to continue our bizarre night of booze and chaos. Big Tasty show was quite entertaining to say the least. I’m a huge fan of his work and have several pieces of his work myself. His work is decently priced.
He has what he called 20 dollar doodles where you can email him, telling him what you want (for example a clown having sex with a giraffe) and he does a detailed sketch for you of his interpretation of it. They’re simply amazing. For more in for on: Big Tasty http://www.myspace.com/big_tasty Hyaena Gallery http://www.hyaenagallery.com/ Kevin Klemm http://www.edgeincollection.com/ What the fuck???!!!
