Being a big fan of movies and such, I always enjoy going back and reading the books that inspired them. I know, I read them in the opposite order than I should, but that's how I like to do it.

So my fiancée's mom got me the paperback set of the books that were the inspiration of True Blood. Being a huge fan of the show I was intrigued to read the story to see what was changed and what inspired the HBO's show creator to bring these books to life. Well so far I finished the first book.

The story is told by Sookie Stackhouse which brings a bit more of a romance element (As in girl love story) to the book. The HBO show has a lot behind the love story as well, but the book definitely is catered more toward the ladies. A few differences with the first book a season one are that there is no Tara at all. Plus Andy Bellefleur is not quite as dumb or bumbling as he is made out to be on the show. Rene was not killed with a shovel during the day in a graveyard, the story played out a bit differently.

Bill also takes on a job which wasn't touched on at all in the series. He is also a bit more unstable sounding in the book.

As for Eric, Pam, Sam, Lafayette, Arlene, Jason, and the rest of the gang the casting of the show was pretty spot on to who was cast on the show. That also goes for locations descriptions as well.

So my verdict: I enjoyed Dead Until Dark. Though I will probably start reading the second book really soon I am a bigger fan of the HBO show. I heard in the second book Lafayette gets killed and there are some major differences and I am interested in reading up on more things the show didn't touch on.

If you are a fan of the show and have the time to pick up a new book check out Dead Until Dark.

Just like Snoop, who obviously has a little Sookie crush.....
