I am one of those guys who loves outrageousness, especially when it comes to an action or martial arts film. I don’t watch movies for educational purposes or for a taste of a different culture; I watch movies because I enjoy the escape from real life. That being said by reading on you’ll understand why I loved Riki-Oh The Story of Ricky.

Chop suey!Ricky Oh Saiga (Siu-Wong Fan) is a good hearted guy who lands in a terrible situation. His girlfriend ends up jumping off a building to her death after being raped while fleeing her assailants. As any man would do, Ricky gets revenge and kills the perpetrators. Because he is an honorable man, he accepts his crime and does the time. Shortly after arriving in the prison he is introduced to a whole new world of corruption and things being to manifest when he protects a fellow inmate from a gang beating. When the prison guards catch on that he is a martial arts master and possesses super human strength, he is forced to battle The Gang of Four who work directly for the Assistant Warden (Mei Sheng Fan) and control each wing of the prison. Things get worse when the Warden (Ka-Kui Ho) finally shows up for an inspection and Ricky must face him in a fight that’s beyond anything you have ever seen.

Not a good face lift fella, I'm just saying...Titled Li wang in Hong Kong, the films origin, Riki –Oh will blow you off your ass with one of the most violent martial arts movies you will ever see. Director Ngai Kai Lam (The Cat and also The Seventh Curse) wasn’t afraid to turn the gore level up here ten thousand notches. I have never seen a movie like this; it’s the perfect blend of ridiculous action and over the top special effects that would make any teen age comic book collector’s wet dream come true. The vocal overdubs are so retarded they just rule. I especially liked The Assistant Warden who hides some sort of drug (weapon - who knows what) under his eye patch. Plus he has a hook for a hand and drags inmates by their faces across the floor with it. What really makes the movie though is not the story, it’s the extreme action. When punched by Ricky, heads either explode or are knocked clear off the shoulders. Fists are thrown through chest cavities, limbs snapped like toothpicks, karate chops that split people in two, birds eat at eyeballs, a guy gets stuffed into a meat grinder, and even an inmate who gets strangled by his own guts!! Ricky is buried alive, people are crucified, and the blood flows like The Nile River.

The guy had guts, that's for sure!

I can sit here all day and try to tell you how cool the movie is, but there is no way any writer can describe this properly. When Ricky punches down a thirty foot block wall you will laugh so hard, you may possibly pull a muscle. It’s a B Movie – but a B Movie that is leagues beyond your wildest dreams. Riki Oh – The Story of Ricky is a leader into a new genre of horror, martial arts, and crime put together. It’s an instant classic that’s excessive in the violence category but totally fucking amazing. The movie is a blast and I would add this to your must see video lists immediately!

Instead of showing the trailer I felt this Benny Hill spoof video a guy made and posted on You Tube was a cooler approach. The trailer is in our collection on the site though. Enjoy the video!
