 What is the best way to sterilize carpet from toddler fecal |

One of our sons is 2 and he smeared some stuff all over the place (approx a 3ft x 3ft area - I cleaned it with boiling water and a sponge then some carpet spot remover. So you can't see it anymore - but what else should I spray on there since we have a 1 yr old that is always crawling around on the carpet.? There has to be some expert carpet ninjas out there. Should we just spray some Lysol on that area?
